MCF has integrated environmental conservation activities in its agricultural activities at MCF Ndalani since 1996. Afforestation programs have been carried out with more than 500,000 (Ndalani) trees planted already to prevent soil erosion, provide firewood, shade and for beautification purposes. Climate Change Project at MCF has been conceived replicate this initiative not only in reclaiming the 500 MCF Yatta farm but to produce One million Tree Seedlings every year for distribution to the community and partners in Mount Kenya region, coastal and Rift Valley region fro reforestation purposes.
MCF is determined to make a significant contribution in the establishment of increased forest cover, production of fruits, fodder for animals, and biomass fuels for communities that are involved in the partnership with MCF. The ongoing project also aimed at planting tree species that can produce bio-diesel for use by the institution and the community at large, directly encourage activities that prevents soil erosion and to carry out preservation of plant biodiversity through establishment of a systematic and scientifically designed gene bank. The efforts to reclaim land through tree planting will be positive towards development of sustainable agriculture sector, conserve environment and increase of the forest cover in Kenya. Through this project MCF has become a learning centre for various local and international organisations, colleges and schools and in early September 2009, 32 student representatives from Europe, Scandinavian countries and Africa under the auspices of World Forum for Climate Change converged at MCF Yatta and MCF Ndalani for a special field study and seminar.
