Celebrating Day Of The African Child

It was on the 16th of June, the day set to celebrate the African child. Yatta district held these celebrations at the Kithimani stadium where scores of children from different primary and secondary schools, teachers, parents, government and security officials thronged the place to witness this auspicious occasion. The day was marked with pomp and color as children marched across the market place highlighting a message of cry for their central needs. Accompanied by security officers, scouts, guides and teachers, they carried banners bearing messages against child abuse, child trafficking, early marriages and drug trafficking among others.

Mully Children’s Family was represented by its beneficiaries and staff. The children presented various entertainment items cherishing love by parents, teachers and the commitment by all stakeholders to improve their welfare. MCF presented such items as songs and acrobatics among others. Other organizations represented include Plan International-Kenya and World Vision-Kenya.
The speakers who included a child guest referred to the history of this particular day in South Africa and pointed out that children should be given their rights. “Children wellbeing is our collective responsibility,” so said the T-shirts the children put on. The District Children’s Officer, Yatta district said that children should be given their right to education and that all children should be treated equally without discrimination. While addressing the gathering, Mr. Vincent Opiyo, MCF Programmes Manager, appreciated the support the government has given to MCF in bringing up the children under its care.

Mully Children’s Family provided food and water to more than 1200 children who attended the event. 
The celebrations highlighted on the need to protect children and allow them to enjoy their rights. This has been the mission of MCF…..to rescue and care for needy children by providing them with their basic needs and allowing them to enjoy their basic rights.
